Estimating Ground Vibration Distance Just Got Easier

Travelers’ online construction vibration tool,ZoneCheck, is designed to help you identify potential [equipment-generated] ground vibration risks. With it you can complete preconstruction project surveys in real time, either on the jobsite or from your office.

ZoneCheckconveniently centralizes industry-recognized ground vibration data for construction equipment by soil types. The resulting calculations indicate how far ground vibrations can extend to surrounding structures or people.ZoneCheckalso helps you document preconstruction evaluations that can be easily shared electronically.

Use ZoneCheck to evaluate equipment-generated ground vibrations

UseZoneCheckto:

  • Establish or refine your strategy for pre-construction surveys
  • Estimate the potential for ground vibration to impact nearby structures or be perceived by occupants
  • Develop measures to help mitigate against damages caused by vibration generating work

Use of construction equipment can create ground vibrations potentially impacting surrounding structures, therefore, understanding the potential risk of property damage is an important aspect of preconstruction surveys.

ZoneCheck开发两个半径从源;“提醒佐恩e” and the “human perception zone”. The “alert zone” is closer to the vibration source. Structures within this zone should receive a higher degree of analysis/review and include photos documenting exterior building conditions and, where appropriate, interior photos. In certain situations, seismographs may need to be positioned in key areas to document the levels of ground vibrations, and construction methods may need to be altered to protect more sensitive structures. In the outer radius, the “human perception zone”, vibrations are likely to be perceived by occupants but less likely to result in structural building damage. Understanding the human perception zone and following appropriate measures can prepare you in the event occupants perceive vibrations and allege damages.

Once you input the equipment and soil type intoZoneCheck, an aerial image of your project site/area is generated that includes both “zones” of influence and their distances. This information can help you further develop mitigation plans specific to the type of work underway.

ZoneCheckcan also produce documentation you can share with other stakeholders at your project with the tap of a button. If allegations are made linking your work to property damage caused by ground vibration, these reports can help document steps taken before work starts, and potentially mitigate these exposures.
